“I really hope [our music] resonates with people like me, regular [people] trying to find our path through life with all of its ups and downs …and obstacles that keep us from feeling who we truly are inside.”
So shares Nick Wusz, songwriter and guitarist for acoustic doom band Dolven. Now releasing their third album, In My Grave…Silence, Dolven’s distinct brand of intimate, folk-inspired heaviness that both embraces and challenges the expansiveness of doom is comfortable, established. Each note is measured, each beat exactly where it needs to be. According to Wusz, that practiced thoughtfulness is rooted in an ongoing loop of emotion and creation:
“Whether it’s anger or love, music demands an emotional anchor. There has to be a passion behind it, and my favorite artists do this. Music is an outlet. Dolven is an outlet for my sorrow and melancholy, but also for my joy and hopefulness. That’s who I am, and it would be impossible and disingenuous to write an album in any other way. It’s all part of trying to live an authentic life!”
Coming out this Friday, June 13th, In My Grave…Silence is an invitation to ponder, to engage with your feelings as a unique experience that’s shared across lifetimes. The rich resonance of doom creates a subtle, but powerful, stage for delicate melodies and vocalist Jori Apedaile’s melancholy intonations. The album feels like a conversation with an old friend, an emotional catharsis that soothes the soul and heals old wounds.
Funereal grooves and gentle melodies join forces for pure expressiveness, inviting the audience to listen closely and experience the album more fully. Rather than crush listeners with walls of sound, Dolven wisely leaves space for breath and introspection. A haunting fullness expands in moments of minimalism and silence. Dolven has spun an enchanting web of emotion that captures the depths of doom while allowing vulnerability to shine in thoughtful silence.
In My Grave…Silence will be released on Friday June 13th, on vinyl via Winding Stair Records, on CD and cassette via Fiadh Productions, and digitally by Dolven.
