Exclusive Premiere: Kazea Confronts Ancestral Pain

Kazea blur genre boundaries to deliver a crushing, emotional sound on their debut album.

I can always count on Suicide Records for the rawest, most intense music possible. Whether it's crushing post-metal or furious hardcore, they never fail to deliver a sonic onslaught. If any proof is needed, look no further than I. Ancestral, the debut album from genre-defying trio Kazea.

Formed by former Orochen members Jonas Mattson and Rasmus Lindblom, Kazea contemplates the punishing lessons handed down by our ancestors and our own experiences. I. Ancestral is painfully earnest, blending folk, sludge, and post-rock into an intensely emotional journey. Due to be released on Friday, March 21st, you can listen to the album in full below.

Kazea aren't just treading the lines between subgenres, they're drawing entirely new worlds with seemingly opposite influences. Plaintive, stripped-down folk meets the crushing haze of post-metal and sludge, delivering a raw, emotional sound that's both vulnerable and cathartic. Echoing family histories, I. Ancestral glides from moments of redemption with energetic post-rock to crestfallen walls-of-sound weighed down by sludge and grime. The journey is profound, wrought with highs and lows, and expansive enough to allow all possible emotions.

I. Ancestral will be released on March 21st via Suicide Records. Pre-order the album on Bandcamp and follow Kazea on Instagram and Bandcamp.
