EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Stare Into The "Ultra-Violet Shimmer and Permeating Infra-sound" With Gigan's Latest Single

You could probably count the bands that could get away with what Gigan are doing on one hand and most of those entries would just be Gigan again.

You could probably count the bands that could get away with what Gigan are doing on one hand and most of those entries would just be Gigan again. I mean this both for the aesthetics of their releases (this track is literally titled "Ultra-Violet Shimmer and Permeating Infra-sound") and their sound, which actually matches "permeating infra-sound" in the best way possible. Gigan have stuck to their las-guns since they first burst unto the scene which is crazy, considering that was back in 2007 (!!!). By now you should know what to expect from this latest single and if you don't allow me to remind you: extremely maximalist, bewildering death metal that will keep you guessing every step of the way. Let's get to it.

What do you even say? The infra-sound really do be permeating, as Gigan's signature, breakneck, complex riffs whirl around you, underpinned by this weird, creepy sound that sounds like a reactor core overheating around you. As always with Gigan, it's hard to pick out just one element to emphasize, but (as always with Gigan) the drums just knock it out of the park. You come to Gigan to feel overwhelmed and this track definitely does this and the percussion does it more than anything else. It's impossible to fully keep up with it but it draws your ear nonetheless, providing both the meat and the flourish of the track.

It's Gigan, what more can I say? It rules, it goes fast, it makes you feel like you're being spaghetti'd (that's a word, shut up) into a black hole. If you came here for that you will surely get it and this is true for Anomalous Abstractigate Infinitessimus which is really the name of the album this is from, I did not make that up. It drops October 25th via the magisterial Willowtip Records. Pre-order it here.

I'll see you in space.
