EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Could Seed Unleash The Drop Crisis

As I wrote in this month's Post Rock Post (which will go live two hours after this post does), post-rock has been on my spin list for the last two months. A major contribution to this is Could Seed's beautiful The Drop Crisis.

As I wrote in this month's Post Rock Post (which will go live two hours after this post does), post-rock has been on my spin list for the last two months. A major contribution to this is Could Seed's beautiful The Drop Crisis, perhaps one of the best debut albums in the space of the last few years. Erupting out of nowhere, this French band (because of course they're French) have made an album that captures all of my favorite sounds, from extremely well made, crescendo based post-rock a la Years of Rice and Salt (please please please listen to Years of Rice and Salt) and Caspian, through heavier post-metal in the style of blog darlings Telepathy, and even all the way to progressive stoner rock in the vein of Elder.

If that seems like a lot of name dropping, it really is necessary in this case; there is so much ground covered on this album and it's all made that much more impressive by how effortless it all feels. The album is constructed beautifully, with the first few tracks laying on the heavier, groovier sounds, all in preparation for the middle and end of it to dive deeper into the melancholy and atmosphere. Its short run time, a little over half an hour, also plays very much in its favor. Before anything has a chance to wear out its welcome, The Drop Crisis simply ends, leaving you with a wonderful taste for me.

OK, enough words. Just scroll on down below and dedicate the half hour and change this album deserves; you will be rewarded a hundred fold. And while you're there, head on over to the band's Bandcamp to stay up to date with this release; it drops this Friday, October 4th.
