I love heavy metal! I always have and I always will; something about the style just sends me right back to being thirteen and falling in love with the sound. And what a year it has been so far for heavy metal, with multiple excellent releases coming in almost every month. To this roster of pure joy we can now add Receiver's Whispers of Lore, which will be released on November 10th. These fine folks hail from Cyprus, which has a metal presence that would surprise you if you weren't already aware, and traffic and the exact style of NWOBHM that I love so much. I get to premiere "Trespasser" today, which showcases exactly why I've already spun this album a dozen or so times since being emailed about it. Scroll on down for galloping riffs, solos, and all the heavy metal your heart desires!
I mean, what's not to like, right? This is the tried and true heavy metal approach performed to perfection. The obvious comparison, especially considering the powerful vocal style on display, is Smoulder. There's that same feeling of epic gesture and story-telling, alongside an absolute dedication to furious riffs. Listen to that bass roar and the agility on the cymbals which scores it! The glorious guitar leads! The solos! It's all here, the burning heart of heavy metal that I keep coming back to over and over again.
The entire album revolves around these themes but is filled with enough dynamism and passion to make sure it doesn't grow old. You can, and should, head on over to the Gates of Hell Records's Bandcamp to pre-order it. If you're a fan of heavy metal as much as I am, this one is not to be missed; quite simply, it rules.
