Here at Heavy Blog we love a good explicitly antifascist message with our music. It’s especially sweet to me (and a few others on staff, I’m sure) when it comes in the form of queer revenge. In the wake of the escalating attacks on the queer community here in the US as fascism continues to seep into the hearts and minds of post-Trump conservatives, we have bands like Richmond’s Terror Cell leading the charge to fight back. On “Propaganda Organ”, guitarist and vocalist Joey Woodard says:
This song along with much of our other material is really just kind of a fuck you to conservatism and the strain US nationalism under the guise of religion that’s started to run more and more rampant over the past few years. They’re no longer trying to parade themselves as anything other than fascists and that’s not something that can be “voted out.” I’m a queer person, as are most of my friends. We’ve seen the damage these people have been doing to our communities forever now, and I feel a personal obligation to make sure that the people who subscribe to these ideals don’t feel safe in our spaces. The system does not protect us, and actively reinforces these people who are targeting us. We need to take care of each other because no one else is going to, and I think a lot of the time that means pushing back.
“Propaganda Organ” is a loud, crushing, panic-chord-imbued ripper dripping with disdain. Check out the exclusive premiere right here and pre-order Caustic Light, out October 7th on Fisher King Records.
