Kelly Carmichael might not be a name you immediately recognize but honestly, that’s more your fault than anything. Carmichael is the beating heart behind Internal Void and has worked with the legendary Pentagram on their sixth release, Show ‘Em How. Now, the veteran guitarist returns with an album titled Heavy Heart, a collection of old school riffs and heaviness which channels fog-filled woods and occult trappings more than anything else. On “The Palmist”, which we’re proud to premiere here today, the dual guitar attack of the underrated Wishbone Ash are in full effect, creating the kind of vibe which describes the album so well. Head on down below for your first taste!

God, those tones are just so satisfying. The way the guitars are written and performed on this album really brings out the thickness and momentum of the distortion. Those dual guitars serve to amp up the harmony, laying out a lush background for the King Crimson meets Black Sabbath influences on the vocals and the solo smack in the middle of the track. The end result is a track which feels more like an addition to the classics of yore rather than a return to it, echoing out in 2019 from the same places that metal originally roared out from.

Heavy Heart releases on the 11th of October and contains plenty more tasty jams like “The Palmist”. You can pre-order it right here.
