Meshuggah are a band with no equal. Having influenced countless major modern rock acts and singlehandedly pioneered what essentially became a new genre, Sweden’s extreme metal act have recently released their eighth album in The Violent Sleep of Reason. Heavy Blog contributor Ahmed Hasan says that The Violent Sleep of Reason is “one of their heaviest and most intricate works through a way that’s become quite unorthodox in this age of digital recording,” more an homage to their own legacy than attempting to integrate outside influence.

Together with the blazing High on Fire, Meshuggah have chugged across North America these past few weeks to dominate venues around the country, playing music from across their entire discography in a brutal 90+-minute set.

Please enjoy the photos below from the bands’ stop in Chicago at the House of Blues.
