San Diego industrial drone-doom act Author & Punisher has allowed project mastermind Tristan Shone to experiment both with the sounds of the genre and the “instruments” which he uses to compose them. Having just wrapped up a North American tour in support of his upcoming album Melk En Honing (details here), Shone has finally debuted the albums lead single – titled “Callous and Hoof” – which may be streamed after the jump:
In commenting on the track, Shone had the following to offer:
“Callous and Hoof” is a track that encapsulates the aura of the album for me; the push/pull between urban dystopian fantasy, real fear, and sentiment towards a physical/medieval lifestyle. We are not using our hands and muscles anymore and this track seeks to counter that notion with intensity, speed and unharnessed tumult. Performing this track live really sucks the life out of me, I hope it does the same for some others as well.
All of this is easily discernible by the seven-minute dirge, which provides a delectable first glimpse into the monstrosity that Melk En Honing is shaping up to be. Set for release on June 30 through Housecore Records, the album may be pre-ordered here.
