Even in their infancy, New York-based progressive metalcore five piece Gyre have been extremely prolific. Since their inception in 2011, the band have released three EPs. Now, with the addition of their newest member, vocalist Ying Chee, the band are gearing up to release a fourth, entitled Moirai, available May 12. Luckily, you don’t have to wait until then to hear what this band is all about. Check out “I Release”, which premiered this past Monday, after the jump!

While there’s a distinctive metalcore influence to their sound, it’s obvious from ‘I Release’ that Gyre don’t subscribe to any set recipe. Melding thrash elements with progressive tendencies, this band has adopted a playing style that is capable of surprising. Mix in a little distortion and a whole lot of groove, as well as some clean and some harsh vocals, and you’ve got a band with some serious versatility. And potential! Mark May 12 on the calendar and be on the look out for more good things to come from Gyre in the future.
