If you haven’t heard by now, the rumors are indeed true—Wayne Static of industrial/groove outfit Static-X has passed away at the age of 48. He would have been 49 tomorrow.
A great deal of the heavy music community has mourned his death, the likes of Dino Cazares, Devin Townsend, Ozzy Osbourne, Fred Durst, and many more paying their respects via social media.
A recent press release absolved Wayne Static of the rumor that his passing was drug-related. He and his wife Tera Wray, known for partying heavily, had abandoned hard drugs in 2009. Static’s first (and now only) solo album, Pighammer, was meant to serve as a tribute to living a drug-free life and hoped it would help others find strength in kicking their own addictions.
The press release from VQPR is as follows:
WAYNE STATIC OF STATIC-X PASSED AWAY
