Remember Corelia? Formerly Corellia, but changed due to legal reasons?

I remember us being pretty impressed, and then I listened to their new track “Treetops,” and I remembered why!

Treetops by Corelia

It’s been a while since I read anything about or heard anything from them about their debut album Nostalgia, but it seems they have indeed been busy. In a recent update on the Sevenstring.org forums, guitarist Chris Dower revealed they’ve been taking their time to make sure everything is ready before announcing a release date.

The astute djentlemen amongst you may have noticed what commenter NotGoingViral clearly has – Spencer Sotelo of Periphery. Apparently he used to be their singer, and whether or not this will make the final cut I don’t know, but I would assume so – it’s an awesome cameo (if you like him, which Jimmy and I certainly do).

Dower also mentioned a tentative tracklisting, which has changed in recent months, so this order is speculative, but:

01. Treetops
02. Aviation
03. The Sound of Glaciers Moving
04. Red Sky Harbor
05. Glass Faces
06. Mute Swan
07. Blood Petals

Keep up to date with happenings on their Facebook page, which includes a link to a number of tabs. Sweet!

A new Haunted Shores song featuring Elliot Coleman of Sky Eats Airplane has made its debut on MySpace. I’m not quite sure what the title is supposed to mean, but the song is alright! I’ve never been much on Sky Eats Airplane, so I didn’t really expect the song to stick with me, but it’s not a bad song. It’s definitely growing on me, that’s for sure.

If you didn’t know, Haunted Shores (featuring Mark Holcomb and Misha Mansoor) are working on a new album featuring an array of guest vocalists. It’s shaping up to be a pretty big release! Check out “My The Man” featuring Elliot Coleman as well as “Passenger” featuring Periphery‘s Spencer Sotelo right here.

So apparently Chris Baretto quit Haunted Shores, making the project an instrumental duo featuring Mark Holcomb and Misha Mansoor with a revolving door of guest vocalists to appear on the upcoming album. The list so far includes quite a few people that are to be obviously expected. Here’s the list so far:

Casey Sabol (Ex-Periphery)

Spencer Sotelo (Periphery)

Jesse Leach (ex-Killswitch Engage, Empire Shall Fall)

Daniel Tompkins (Tesseract)

Elliot Coleman (Sky Eats Airplane)

Greg Pope (Monuments)

Scott Quigley (This Time It’s War)

Patrick Purves (Life on Repeat)

Ryan Devlin (Corellia)

Javi Perera

There are a couple of more to be announced. Some vocalists are expected to do a couple of songs, with some songs featuring multiple vocalists.

This weekend, Haunted Shores gave a preview of the new material complete with vocals in the way of “Passenger,” featuring Spencer Sotelo. The song is simply awesome and shows Spencer’s growth as a vocalist since Periphery‘s debut dropped. The difference is noticeable! This will be a great release for sure.

Check out “Passenger” via MySpace. I’m excited!

REVIEW: Periphery – Periphery

After waiting for a couple of years, rotating band members, and extensive touring, it’s finally here. Periphery‘s debut album Periphery is out. But was it worth all the wait and anticipation?

You bet your tits it was.

If you’re some jerk who is not familiar with Periphery, they combine the groove and complex math metal riffs of Meshuggah with soaring vocal melodies and beautiful ambient guitar work. This mending of styles works wonderfully. How’s about we combine the musical stylings of Meshuggah and Cynic together and give them an ambitious and passionate singer? You’re in for a treat.

Guy with big hair = gone.

Hell if I know how many different singers Periphery have through so far. They haven’t even put out an album yet and they’ve had three or four different vocalists on board. I don’t know when previous vocalist Chris Baretto was dropped, but when listening to the new album sampler posted on MySpace, I noticed the singing was different. Specifically, in the clip of “Light”, the new vocalist is hitting notes a whole fucking octave higher than the version recorded with Baretto.

The new vocalist is Spencer Sotelo, and I think I’m liking his voice better than Baretto’s. Periphery’s debut album is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated albums of the year. It will be out on Sumerian Records April 20th.

Again, check out the sampler on Periphery’s MySpace and get excited!
