Smohalla & Omega Centauri – Tellur — Epitome

It seems that more and more bands these days are combining the extremities of black metal and avant garde music, a recipe built for obscurity and esotery. With that in mind, it makes sense how up-and-coming artists in the genre have discovered that combining resources in a collaborative split album would help them cover more ground. French blackened experimentalists Smohalla and British-Belgian connection Omega Centauri have done just that, creating a potent showcase of new talent in the realm of post-black metal in the split album Tellur --- Epitome.

Deathspell Omega – Drought

French black metal enigmas Deathspell Omega not only helped to innovate the genre, they transcend it as well. Their sound, while rooted in black metal bands like Mayhem and Marduk, also delves into sludge, prog, and even shades of hardcore. Their unique melding of sounds puts them at an advantageous position at the forefront of a movement, becoming the source of emulation over the years by the likes of Dodecahedron, Smohalla, and likely a handful of others yearning to make a racket in the underground avant-garde scene. The group continues their trend of weirdening up the genre with their succinct new EP Drought.
