Beyond just the iconic naming convention, Greek we.own.the.sky instantly ring out with discernible influences and sounds lovingly taken from the international post-rock scene. Specifically, as much in the flavor of the delay as in the meaty guitars and bass, sleepmakeswaves comes instantly to mind. If you’ve been following my writing, you’ll know that’s one of the highest compliments that I can give and, indeed, “We Align” deserves that high praise. It’s an incredibly energetic track which doesn’t for a moment overstay its welcome, hitting those sweet, groovy vibes of well made post-rock that I love so much. Head on down below to get a taste for yourself.

First off, let me reiterate: loud bass on all post-rock, please and thank you. The bottom end of this track is an absolute delight, blending incredibly well with the thick tones of both the rhythm and lead guitars. Add to that the scintillation so expertly captured at the top of tremolo-picked, delay heavy transitions and you’ve got yourself a winner. Special shout-out is given to the climax which begins around the three minutes and twenty second mark. This segment, which eventually turns into the melancholy outro, catalyzes the ideas found earlier in the track, the drums leading by example. Their energetic acceleration drives these soon-to-be-final moments into the high octane place they need to be. This sets up the sleepmakeswaves noise at the end, bringing the track to a perfect close.

All in all, this single should do much to convince you that we, once again, have a great name to watch for coming out of Europe. As we always say, this brand of post-rock is very much alive and kicking and, if this single is any indicate, we.own.the.sky are set to make a more than worthy addition to it very soon. Home, from which this single is taken, releases on November 1st. You can pre-order it right here, via Bandcamp.
