When I was a kid, my parents used to give me a biweekly allowance of $50. When I was in high school, that mostly went toward gas. But in middle school, I was mostly buying CDs. I remember having to really think hard about which ones I was going to buy. I’d always try to listen to songs before investing in the hard copy. I ended up buying a lot of more mainstream kind of stuff since that’s what I had access to. The “out there” kind of stuff was always fun but I never felt like I could really look into it. Now that we have Bandcamp, it’s way easier to just dive into the weird stuff like The Alex Jones Prison Planet‘s new record Super Heavy Galactic Stuff.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve heard anything make more sense in my life. The project is relatively simple: it’s just clips from Alex Jones’ InfoWars show about aliens and world governments played over death metal riffs. While I don’t believe in a single solitary piece of garbage that Jones spews, I do really rather enjoy a good conspiracy theory. While Jones just spouts off on whatever nonsensical rambling has captured his brain, the riffs make it seem not only more serious but maybe even real. Sure, the idea of Alex Jones having a friend who’s a geneticist who also tried to splice human and fish DNA is ridiculous. But with death metal riffs? Who knows?!? It could really be happening! THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!

Yes, this is a little gimmicky. The title is based on a pop culture figure who’s very slowly getting ostracized and marginalized in society. Thankfully, he’s being exposed for the lunatic fraud that he is. However, it is highly entertaining when someone can string together such utter drivel and put that kind of passion behind it. But combined with death riffs, it almost seems like a movie. It’s like if Randy Quaid’s character from Independence Day had a metal band, they’d sound like Alex Jones Prison Planet. Plus it’s only 12 minutes long. You’re not wasting too much of your life listening to it. It’s worth the time suck. Pick it up on the band’s Bandcamp page.
