When it comes to extreme music, Sweden just gets it. Even ignoring black metal and melodic death metal which claim the country as home turf, subgenres that weren’t initially borne from Scandinavia seem to improve once they hit Sweden’s borders. Take grindcore for instance: largely considered a British development, leave it to Swedish grind legends Nasum to take the sound to new heights.

Nasum are long gone now, but fortunately many acts are carrying on in their wake. Gadget, despite being active for nearly twenty years, are poised to gain due recognition for themselves as worthy torchbearers (alongside Finnish neighbors Rotten Sound) thanks to their upcoming record The Great Destroyer. Breaking a nearly ten year silence, the group pummel through the entire grind playbook while hinting at smatterings of doom and sludge to create a record worthy of its title.

One may consider this a comeback, but for many, this serves as a first impression. The band have been dropping singles across the internet all week, and we’re proud to bring you “Collapse“, just over a minute of propulsive, crusty grindcore that is but one shade of a larger dynamic at play on The Great Destroyer. Stream the track below.

The Great Destroyer will see release on CD, LP and digital formats through Relapse Records on March 4th, 2016. Physical preorders are available now via Relapse Records HERE; digital preorders can be found at GADGET‘s Bandcamp HERE.
