December 31st, 2015, Saint Vitus in Brooklyn was celebrating New Year’s Eve (and New Year’s Day) with one of Brooklyn’s bands who have been quickly gaining popularity over the last couple of years. Opening the show on New Year’s Eve was Ageist. They really kicked things off with uptempo, as they call it, “90’s flare,” which isn’t exactly wrong. Following was Royal Thunder. They had a cool mixture between a psychedelic trance and some riffs, a good addition to the lineup for both nights. Finally, the band carrying the patrons at Saint Vitus into the new year was none other than Mutoid Man. In fact, Mutoid Man was essentially conceived at Saint Vitus, so it only made sense to have them end 2015 and start 2016. Between a semi-improvised setlist (as in a, “hey, what do you want us to play?” kinda thing, which only happened twice) and some covers, including one being an homage to the late and legendary, Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, and their funny stage banter and antics, Mutoid Man ended 2015 and started 2016 with a bang. Even though the shows were announced last minute, it was better than any party that was held anywhere in New York City and/or Long Island. Enjoy the pictures below!
