Having transgressed into hallmark territory, becoming a common name on the lips of metal fans, The Black Dahlia Murder recently treated their Australian audience to ten glorious shows across the country. Ending the tour with a second show in Brisbane, TBDM joined Psycroptic, Colossvs, A Night In Texas and a slew of other local acts for a huge night of heavy music under the Deathfest moniker.

With the band having been on the road for the better part of two weeks, it was hugely impressive to see such enthusiasm from each member, especially considering they performed a monster two hour set. After my recent interview with their vocalist Trevor Strnad, I got the chance to discuss the bands progress since their inception, and how a lot of the time they find themselves still coming to grips with just how far they have made it as a group. This love and passion for music simply eminated from the stage, the abundance of smiles and laughter juxtaposing the brutal lyrics and death metal aesthetic that comes with the genre. My first thought is to mention what a rarity such an event in a city like Brisbane is, however the last few years has seen an increase in the quality of the shows that roll through this city. Crowbar’s Deathfest featured eight bands over nine hours, and was the kind of show where it was almost difficult not to bump into jovial, partying band members at every turn you took. A packed venue on the last date of a long-overdue Australian tour only spells one thing – celebration. This was a great experience and and even better night to photograph.
