I should probably just stop apologizing for the huge gaps between getting these live videos out. To be perfectly honest, I’ve had to take a bit of a break from shooting shows for Heavy Blog the past month or so for a number of reasons (all of the work that my duties as an editor here of late required have certainly contributed). Nonetheless, I feel bad that I haven’t been able to get the shows I’ve already shot out in a much more timely manner. This one in particular. Progressive instrumental darlings The Fine Constant and groovy rock up-and-comers Maid Myriad came through Brooklyn this past April as a part of their “Woven In Haste” tour that Heavy Blog gladly sponsored. First off, I’m afraid I’m going to have to apologize yet again. The audio for these sets is tragically well below what I normally am able to grab. Most of that can be attributed to filming at a new venue (Lucky 13 Saloon rather than Saint Vitus) with a completely different board. Without getting too technical, I didn’t have what I needed at the time to pull board sound from both channels (which were being stereo-panned). So I did get some board sound, but only one channel (hence no board vox for Maid Myriad). That and other factors in how they were mic’d for the smaller room and such basically meant I was relying almost solely on room sound. I’ve since upgraded my equipment pretty much across-the-board, but that doesn’t help for this.
Speaking about the bands specifically though, both completely tore through their sets and were a total joy to witness. The Fine Constant guitarist/composer Sarah Longfield has a quiet focus to her playing that completely belies the head-spinning riffs she puts out. For his part, Maid Myriad frontman Jeff Klemm totally commanded the room with his more energetic stage presence and performance. The bands are stylistically quite far apart, but both are definitely fun in their own way and provide plenty of head-nodding moments.
Still got a couple of lineups worth of sets to get through in my backlog before I’m caught up (both are absolute burners and should please you all immensely), and I’ll be back in the filming saddle starting next weekend. Got some huge shows coming up I’m planning on grabbing for you all to eagerly consume, but you’ll just have to wait to see what they are…hopefully in the not too distant future.
