The Dear Hunter Live

There are two major ways to approach band publicity. You can take the slow and steady approach by releasing info in drips and drabs – a tour here, a single here, a new album here. Or you can essentially say fuck it and just dump everything at once and leave press and fans scrambling to pick up the pieces. Casey Crescenzo of progressive band The Dear Hunter has always had a knack for keeping his fans on their toes, so it comes as no surprise that he would choose to announce three HUGE pieces of information at once, while seemingly burying the lede on the biggest piece.

Yesterday, in a letter to fans on the band’s website, Crescenzo announced the immediate release of the band’s new live album, simply named The Dear Hunter Live. The album contains cuts from the band’s post-Migrant tour in 2013 with a string quartet and covers bits from nearly their entire catalog (with the exception of Act I). Listen to a full stream of it and catch the other all-important information from the press release after the jump!

In the letter, Casey writes at length about his early struggles with live performance and his growth over the years that’s come from having to perform in public night after night. Of the album itself, he says “I wanted to surprise our fans with this release, as it is my gift to you all, for supporting me over the years, and never giving up on me.  Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your continued faith in The Dear Hunter.”

As if that wasn’t enough though, he also announced that the band will be embarking on a US tour in April and May, which will feature the band performing Act II and Act III in their entirety. For any fan of The Dear Hunter, this is about as good as it gets (although having been in attendance at their phenomenal The Color Spectrum show, they’ve already set the bar quite high). These are two utterly classic progressive albums, and although they were released back in 2007 and 2009, respectively, the material feels as fresh as ever.

Of course, Crescenzo, being the sneaky creature he is, slyly saved the biggest news of the day for last. At the very end of the letter he mentions working on a new studio album and drops the news all TDH fans have been waiting for now for 6 years — Act IV exists, and it will see a 2015 release. The album will be named Rebirth In Reprise, logically following the war and death-obsessed Act III: Life and Death. No other info about the album yet, but, frankly, hearing the words Act IV uttered from Casey’s mouth is more than enough to sustain any of his fans for quite some time, let alone in combination with everything else announced.

The Dear Hunter Live is available right dang now for digital purchase, and physical pre-orders are active on their website. Tracklist for The Dear Hunter Live and upcoming tour dates are below. If you are anywhere near these cities you would be an absolute fool not to go.
