After months of waiting, we finally have both the identity of Northlane‘s new vocalist and his debut song with the band, entitled ‘Rot’. The man behind the mic is named Marcus Ridge and he does a more than competent job on this new track. Don’t just take my word for it, though. Check out ‘Rot’ after the jump.
Marcus is an excellent addition to the band. Now that he’s here, they can start to do different things and move into a more dynamic range of sounds and influences. ‘Rot’ relies heavily on atmosphere and Marcus’ cleans, so they are clearly taking advantage of their newly utilized resource right off the bat. However, with all of these bands moving to clean vocals and atmospheric soundscapes, I can’t help but wonder if we’re about to face some over saturation in the metalcore and metal scene in general. Who knows? We should probably just live in the moment and appreciate the bands willing to push the boundaries of their music further and further instead of worrying so much.
