Stargazer

You know what, I was going to write some musings here about djent, metalcore and progressive music but I’m just not going to do that. Here’s what you need to know: Stargazer are a criminally unknown band hailing from Pennsylvania that create a unique blend between hardcore, metalcore and djent that is both extremely catchy and unrelentingly complex. In the crop of generic bands that plague all three of those genres, Stargazer really shine through in both the verve and honesty of their music. Blending influences from ERRA, Animals as Leaders and The Ghost Inside, they create some killer tunes that know how to be heavy without being boring by mixing in keyboards, dreamy guitar passages and vocal diversity among their breakdowns. And you know what the best part is? They progress. Head on over the jump to check out the new track they just released.

This track is pretty damn excellent. Their production has gotten a lot tighter since their EP release and the more dreamy elements in their music, a-la Animals as Leaders, have been brought to the forefront. The excellent singing has remained just that, being the heaviest element of this track. I just love the combination of the more complex elements in the background and the djent-y chugs, never once falling into the chaos that can sometimes characterize bands within this genre. All in all, this reminds me of what Scale the Summit would sound like with more riffs and killer progressive metalcore vocals.

I have to be honest and say that I stumbled upon these guys today and I haven’t stopped spinning their first EP or this track for hours. Check out their EP over at Famined Records bandcamp and make sure to stay on top these promising young artists.
