So as you may or may not have noticed, we were supposed to get a new Opeth single this week. Obviously, that didn’t happen. Metal Injection even pointed out that the hotly anticipated single ‘Cusp Of Eternity’ and album pre-orders were nowhere to be seen, and made some speculation as to why that might be. Today we find out the real reason for the missing single; the album has been pushed back by over two months from June 17th to August 26th.

What would cause such a delay for an album that has already completed and sent to press? Band leader Mikael Akerfeldt explains, via Blabbermouth:

“Many of you have heard the rumours already and we can now confirm that the release of ‘Pale Communion’ has indeed been pushed back to late August. Several circumstances prevented the band from delivering essential tools to Roadrunner in time which are needed to set up the album release properly and release schedule conflicts made us mutually decide on August instead of June.”

Pretty vague. I know of some friends who work for print mags who have heard the album in its completed form. Perhaps the album art and liner notes have yet to be completed? Whatever the cause, we can now expect the single ‘Cusp of Eternity’ and album pre-orders on June 3rd. Another album track (currently unknown) will then be made available July 15th.

And of course, once again, Pale Communion will be out August 26th via Roadrunner Records.
