metalocalypse the doomstar requiem

When Metalocalypse first came out around 2006, I thought it was the best thing ever. I was just getting into melodic death metal at the time, and the coalescence of my budding musical taste and that style of humor Adult Swim had been known for was just perfect. Before the idea of a real-world Dethklok album even came up, I would download rips of the songs from each week’s episodes from a fan page on MySpace. It was a good time.

A couple of seasons in, I sort of fell off the wagon. I’m not sure why, and I have no excuse. Once Time Warner comes to their senses and decides to put the rest of the series on Netflix, I am so down. Since Metalocalypse has apparently became more serialized, I can’t say I’d be too stoked to skip ahead of the story, so I didn’t watch the new special The Doomstar Requiem: A Klok Opera. However, I have decided to throw caution to the wind and heard a few tracks from the soundtrack, and it’s looking good!

Yahoo Music is streaming the full album, and it’s neat to hear Dethklok with a full orchestra. It’s not Wintersun or anything (could you imagine?!), but it sounds pretty epic when the music gets going. There’s even an appearance from Cannibal Corpse‘s George “Corpsegrinder” Fischer! Finally. If you like what you hear, you can buy the soundtrack and the entire episode on Amazon.
