rivers of nihil

I know this one is a couple of days late, but I wanted to talk about it anyway as I’ve been listening to Rivers Of Nihil‘s recently released debut The Conscious Seed Of Light a hell of a lot lately, especially following the glowing review it got given yesterday. Just the other day the band put out a performance video for ‘Rain Eater‘ (possibly my favourite track on the album) and it’s pretty much a crash course in why a lot of people are losing their minds over this release. Check it out:

Every riff and passage is completely water-tight and deliberate and it helps that each one is a crushing and earth-moving gateway to the days of Domination-era Morbid Angel. Also, it’s always great to hear a death metal band with a truly talented and, most importantly, audible bass player — with Alex Webster being one of the main granddaddys of death metal you’d think this sort of thing would be more widely utilised.

So, if you haven’t got the point yet, listen to this album. Definitely one of the best debuts to come out this year.
