Many genre elitists the world over would surely be aghast over such a collaboration, but apparently Trivium frontman Matt Heafy is eying Ihsahn to produce his long-awaited solo album, according to a recent interview with Metal Injection.
This may seem like a headscratcher on the surface, but when you really look at it, it makes some sense. Heafy is a huge fan of black metal, and you’ll more often than not catch him sporting an Emperor shirt and a denim vest (above). His top albums list of 2012 featured nothing but black metal and its adjacent genres, as well. Who knows? Maybe he’ll offer some legitimately stellar black metal, and with Ihsahn at the helm, it’ll certainly sound the part.
Of course, both musicians have pretty full schedules. Matt will be busy with Trivium’s new album cycle for Vengeance Falls for a while and Ihsahn’s set to release Das Seelenbrechen soon, and let’s not forget the Emperor reunion shows in 2014. It might not happen for a while, but when it does, it’ll be an interesting listen for sure.
In the mean time, Trivium’s Vengeance Falls is out now on Roadrunner Records, and Ihsahn’s Das Seelenbrechen is out October 22nd through Candlelight Records.
