As part of the generation that grew up glued to various editions of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, I’m predisposed to associate the combination of skateboarding and music with a good time. I’d been listening to Deftones for years through the guise of ‘Head Up‘ and it’s inclusion on THPS3 without even realising — but it’s only recently that I really fell in love with the band, especially through their last couple of albums; Diamond Eyes and Koi No Yokan. Lo and behold, the circle goes round and the band’s latest video for ‘Romantic Dreams‘ is a pretty serene skateboarding showcase, featuring Jason Park and directed by Brett Novak:
Funny how things change, isn’t it? The difference between the band that once graced the soundtrack to skateboarding game and the band that now puts out full music videos comprised of skateboarding are subtle but obvious. I’m not sure how many would have guessed that they would make it through the stormy nu-metal weather and out the other side as a widely respected metal band, but they always had something unique about them.
Also, Park is insanely talented.
