While not exactly a recent release, I never did get the chance to talk about this monolithic slab of pure hatred and powerviolence. Gets Worse‘s Negative dropped halfway through the year and has basically become my go-to choice for my powerviolence fix. Boasting a visceral atmosphere, enough blastbeats to sink a ship and the fuzziest bass tone this side of Fukpig — Negative is an misanthropic as it’s name would have you believe.

It’s essentially a check list of everything I love about the genre; tracks that are brief enough to leave you wanting more, vocals from every single direction and riffs that alternate between frantic grind-fests and mid-tempo stomps. The UK has a tonne of hidden filthy gems in this sort of extremity and Gets Worse slot themselves in easily alongside scene luminaries such as The Afternoon Gentlemen (whom they share members with), Human Cull and The Atrocity Exhibit.
