So far, 2013 is shaping up to be a brilliant year for boundary-pushing death metal. Gorguts, Ulcerate, and Gigan all see release this year, and have seen a bit of critical praise or massive hype. Each of the acts are pretty out-there in their own right, and challenge conventional death metal tone and structure. Joining them in their string of aural destruction is Miami-based psychedelic experimentalists Orbweaver, who have just released their new record, Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon.
Describing Orbweaver proves to be as difficult as their music makes them out to be. What we’re talking here is off-the-wall structureless noise tech that borders on the type of irreverence built by instrumental group Behold The Arctopus, complete with insane space atmospherics. I found that very little of Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon actually made sense, but that in and of itself is one of Orbweaver’s many charms. If you’re like me and enjoy bands that destroy all expectations of what music should be, then you can find Strange Transmissions From The Neuralnomicon to your enjoyment below:
