One of the best things about this whole writing thing is that I’ve found so many great bands that are basically living on my back doorstep. And when they’re as fucking loud and noisy as JohnXMcClane, I don’t even know how I managed to overlook them.
Taking the most punk influenced hardcore possible and ramming it face-first into, the wretched cesspool that we all know and love as, powerviolence, JohnXMcClane speed through 8 tracks in nearly 8 minutes. Only ever really stopping for breath to introduce another deranged sample, this self-titled EP is one hell of a mission statement and a collection of everything you could ask for in a powerviolence release; relentless grind, searing feedback, punk laced d-beats and even mid-tempo moments in finale ‘Maggot‘ that remind you although JohnXMcClane are true speedfreaks, they still know a good riff when they hear it.

In all, the final sample on the album sums it up perfectly — “so this is rock ‘n’ roll? I like it!”
