The involvement of Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor in the debut Animals As Leaders album is fairly well known by now and, following on from his absence on their most recent outing, the duo have come together again to release two tracks for an EP for Guitar World. Both tracks, entitled ‘Pessimist‘ and ‘Optimist‘, quickly made their rounds on the internet through Tumblr and YouTube — I’m not oppressed enough to understand how Tumblr works so instead click below for the YouTube embeds:

As far as I’m aware, Abasi has already announced that Mansoor will be working on the 3rd AAL album, so the obvious question here is whether these two tracks are from that collaboration or a separate work altogether? Either way, I’m really enjoying what I hear, ‘Optimist‘ grooves incredibly hard and the darker approach of ‘Pessimist‘ works surprisingly well. The bottom line is these two can come up with pure gold and I hope they continue to work together in the future and that we don’t have to wait too long for that new AAL outing.

EDIT: Misha has confirmed that these two tracks will not be a part of the new Animals As Leaders record. When asked about whether they were accurate representation of that album, he replied:

Maybe a little, but I definitely prefer the songs we wrote for the new AAL album better.
