Devin Townsend‘s The Retinal Circus was one of the biggest metal shows of 2012. The one-off concert special was held at The Roundhouse in London back in October, and was overflowing with production value. There were contortionists, acrobats, a choir, and a narrative that tied the show together by Steve Vai. Not many could attend the show due to its location and one-time performance, but fortunately, the show was professionally shot and edited, with a DVD and Blu-Ray release coming later this year!
The first glimpse from the finished product is a clip of The Devin Townsend Project performing ‘Grace‘ from 2012’s Epicloud, featuring Anneke Van Giersbergen. The song really comes to life with a full choir backing! Check it out below:
Devin Townsend had this to say about the huge undertaking that is The Retinal Circus release:
‘So closing in on 8 months of work, we’re almost finished with the Retinal Circus! It’s been a huge amount of work for everyone, from the show, down to DVD & Blu-ray authoring, artwork, logistics…(not to mention the show itself!) but we’re almost there, and when watched in its entirety, it’s really a heck of an experience!
To tie you over until it’s out, here’s a clip of the song ‘Grace’…It’s out of context obviously, but hopefully gives you a vague idea of what’s about to come out.
It’s been a ton of work for everybody and we’re really quite proud of it…when the final products have been produced, we’ll let you know!
As far as I can tell, there isn’t a set release date for The Retinal Circus yet, but expect more information and pre-orders soon!
