One of the best young bands around is Last Chance To Reason. Hands down one of the most promising up-and-coming progressive metal groups to come out of the woodwork over the past few years. Their sophomore album Level 2 blew our minds when it was released on Prosthetic Records in 2011. For fans of Between the Buried and Me, this friendly bunch of geeks ramps up off-the-wall prog with an overarching conceptual universe with existential themes presented in the guise of a science fiction epic relating to Artificial Intelligence. At least, that’s what I grasped from Level 2. Level 3 will build upon these themes, according to drummer Evan Sammons.
But that’s not all. It’s been one hell of a busy 24 hours for the group in so far as laying their cards for the future on the table. Metalsucks announced this morning that vocalist Michael Lessard will become The Contortionist‘s full-time vocalist while Last Chance To Reason becomes something more like a studio project.
Even more of a bummer, both guitarists left shortly after completion of Level 3. Fortunately, there’s still another tour in the works though, as we’ve heard that the group have tapped The Contortionist’s Robby Bacca to fill in on guitar duties when they hit the road with Evan Brewer in July.

Before we start getting too bummed out over the impending hiatus of Last Chance To Reason, we can rejoice over the group’s new track, ‘The Escapist.’ If this track is representative of Level 3 as a whole, then this album will be a masterpiece. Watch the video below, courtesy of Alt Press:
Level 3 will be released August 6th on Prosthetic Records. Expect physical pre-orders soon.
