It’s been a strange few months to be a Slayer fan. With the unfortunate loss of the legend that was Hanneman and the departure of Lombardo, it’s been a rocky ride. However, the band have announced that drummer Paul Bostaph has returned to the band for their upcoming tour dates, replacing the aforementioned Lombardo, with Araya stating:
“Paul’s a great drummer and a good friend, and we’re very happy that he’s decided to rejoin the band. We’re still pretty numb from the loss of Jeff, but we don’t want to disappoint our European and South American fans, and we need to begin moving forward… having Paul back in the band makes that a whole lot easier.”
Now, it’s pretty obvious to anyone that’s heard him play that Bostaph is a phenomenal drummer. The guy took the drum seat on Divine Intervention, Diabolus In Musica and God Hates Us All so we already know he’s a great fit for the band. But I can’t be the only thinking that maybe this whole experience should’ve been the catalyst for these guys to forget their differences and go on tour as the core members we all know and love. It’s probably a lot more complicated than it seems to us, as outsiders, so I shouldn’t really complain too much — the important thing is the band are honouring their commitment to their upcoming shows, making sure fans are all getting something to look forward to.
Also, I broke out God Hates Us All the other day for the first time in ages and that album is definitely underrated. Ahem.
