Black metal isn’t exactly my forte. While I love the hell out of progressive and post-black metal, more traditional oriented styles that aren’t Emperor are hard for me to crack. Sweden’s Watain is one of the few more traditional/orthodox bands that wound up in my iTunes library; Lawless Darkness changed the game for me when I finally decided to give the critically acclaimed album a chance, and it made me a casual fan of the group. So more than just a little bit excited by the prospect of a new Watain album coming out this year!

Via the band’s Facebook:

After 120 nights of iron will and ardent magic, the fifth full length album of Watain is now complete. With broken bones and burning hearts we have ploughed our way through deepest winter into a new wilderness, to which we will open the gates at summers end. THE WILD HUNT will be released on August 19th in Europe and August 20th in USA. Beware!

The album production was once again handled by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden, so we can at least expect a record that sounds as great as its predecessor Lawless Darkness. Get excited; The Wild Hunt is out August 20th on Century Media Records.
