As some of you may know, I — Alkahest/JR, editor of Heavy Blog — am currently enrolled as a full-time student in college. Things are coming down to the wire in my final semester, and believe it or not, I’m going to school for something that has nothing to do with music or communications. I’m actually in my final semester, and in the next month, I will graduate with two bachelors degrees in social science, and HOPEFULLY have a job in my field of study.
However, it goes without saying that the end of the semester is the worst time for students, and this goes double for those who are about to graduate. I’m having to juggle my work with Heavy Blog, a “real” part-time job, an internship, and classes this semester, and it’s at the point where I need to start focusing on my school work so I can actually graduate on time. Unfortunately, this means I’m going to have to spend less time with my nose in my laptop doing metally bloggy things and more time with my nose in my laptop doing scholarly researchy things.
Don’t worry yet though! We’ll keep updating the site when we can, but it might be in a more sporadic fashion. Instead of our typical 10 am – 4 pm Monday – Friday posting schedule, if things get bad enough, you can more or less just count on us posting things as we write them when we find the time. There’s a staff of around 20 contributors behind the scenes, so we shouldn’t fall of the map entirely in the next few months even though most of them are college students as well. In fact, we’re currently putting together a literal handful of interviews, including but not necessarily limited to The Ocean, Author and Punisher, Soilwork, SHINING, and Dark Tranquillity. Exciting things are coming up, so don’t jump ship on us yet!
If you’ve made it this far in this unusually personal blog post, you probably read the site regularly, so I’d like to extend a thank you to you guys who make this site possible. If you’re feeling particularly inclined to help out while I’m busy with school, you can shoot me an email at mail[at]heavyblogisheavy[dot]com. If you’re confident in your writing abilities and you’re a nice person, we may invite you on board as a contributor. Who knows?! Most of our contributors started off as regular readers in the first place!
So apologies in advance if sporadic, late, or otherwise lack of updates in the next month or so as I prepare for graduation. Thanks for sticking with us!
