[Coheed and Cambria performing live at an unrelated show.]
Anyone that’s been to a handful of rock shows — well, metal shows in particular; this is Heavy Blog, after all — knows that cramming a bunch of strangers together in a loud, warm room with access to alcohol can cause a bit of interpersonal friction among concert-goers. Fights have been known to break out in crowds from time to time, and it varies widely how the situation is handled. More often than not, security jumps on the ball and the band either ignores the fighting or simply can’t see from the stage.
Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez doesn’t fool around when it comes to live performance. Establishing that he takes no shit and gives no fucks, he stopped the show in St. Petersburg, FL mid-song during ‘Vic The Butcher’ to kick out a couple of fighting audience members, and does so with vitriol. Check out the video below, starting at 3:35:
Seeing Claudio so pissed is actually pretty scary on some levels, but no one can blame him. Music is his life, and he clearly takes performances very seriously. Not only is some petty fighting distracting to the band members, but it puts other fans in danger and reflects poorly on the band. What makes it so great though is after the commotion dies down, he apologizes to everyone:
“Sorry about that, guys. I tried my hardest to just keep the tune going, but when blows start happening it’s really just not fucking cool. Not into it. My apologies. We’re going to have to move on to the next song, so we’re sorry that ‘Vic‘ kinda got ruined.”
All in all, I’d say he handled it like a boss.
