Anyone that’s been to a handful of rock shows — well, metal shows in particular; this is Heavy Blog, after all — knows that cramming a bunch of strangers together in a loud, warm room with access to alcohol can cause a bit of interpersonal friction among concert-goers. Fights have been known to break out in crowds from time to time, and it varies widely how the situation is handled. More often than not, security jumps on the ball and the band either ignores the fighting or simply can’t see from the stage.

Coheed and Cambria frontman Claudio Sanchez doesn’t fool around when it comes to live performance. Establishing that he takes no shit and gives no fucks, he stopped the show in St. Petersburg, FL mid-song during ‘Vic The Butcher’ to kick out a couple of fighting audience members, and does so with vitriol. Check out the video below, starting at 3:35:

Seeing Claudio so pissed is actually pretty scary on some levels, but no one can blame him. Music is his life, and he clearly takes performances very seriously. Not only is some petty fighting distracting to the band members, but it puts other fans in danger and reflects poorly on the band. What makes it so great though is after the commotion dies down, he apologizes to everyone:

“Sorry about that, guys. I tried my hardest to just keep the tune going, but when blows start happening it’s really just not fucking cool. Not into it. My apologies. We’re going to have to move on to the next song, so we’re sorry that ‘Vic‘ kinda got ruined.”

All in all, I’d say he handled it like a boss.

Catch Coheed on tour with Between the Buried and Me and Russian Circles right now, but for the love of all that is holy, don’t start throwing blows. Here are the remaining dates:

Mar 08 2013 – Miami Beach, FL – The Fillmore
Mar 10 2013 – Charlotte, NC – The Fillmore Charlotte
Mar 11 2013 – Philadelphia, PA – Electric Factory
Mar 14 2013 – Boston, MA – House of Blues
Mar 16 2013 – New York, NY – Radio City Music Hall

I’ll see you folks in Charlotte.
