For Today were previously a polarizing band around these parts. Some of us can find enjoyment out of their music, but others can’t be bothered to get into the band’s borderline generic tunes when the band are notorious for being very preachy, especially during live shows. Now, For Today have earned the ire of the internet, and the disapproval of pretty much every metal fan who isn’t an asshole.
For Today guitarist Mike Reynolds took to twitter on a self-righteous tirade against homosexuality. Here’s the text:
“There IS a state church being formed, there is going to be an exclusive acceptance of preachers who advocate the LGBT. Don’t be deceived, homosexuality is a sin. This sin with all other sins is what Jesus died for. He conquered so that we would be free.
No such thing as a gay Christian, the same as there is no such thing as a Christian who loves his sin. Don’t be fooled by the formation of a state church as though the government is being converted, they only use the name of Jesus for their Progressive liberal agenda.
If you are a Christian then separate yourself from this civil religion that advocates sin. Be true to God.”
As we push forward into 2013, homosexuality is being accepted more and more in the modernized world, and this is for the better. Mike’s words, while not inherently homophobic or inflammatory as it is just completely ignorant, are not only insensitive, but distasteful. This is a prime example of the type of people who are holding this nation back from equality.
I’d also like to point out that Mike has tattoos and likely wears mixed fabrics, both of which are condemned in the same part of the bible that frowns upon homosexuality. Don’t pick and choose from a holy book for when it’s convenient. When Christ came along, he fulfilled the Old Testament. The New Testament and the teachings of Christ are what Christians should be following, and he didn’t say a word about homosexuality.
I’ll leave with something that Christ ACTUALLY taught us:
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
Don’t worry about the sins of others when yours are just as heavy.
