For our year end best-of retrospectives, we reached out to a few friends of the site who were active bands in 2012 to contribute their personal lists and rundowns of what they enjoyed throughout the year. Kicking off our guest lists is Cyclamen and WithYouAtHome mastermind Hayato Imanishi, whom you may already be familiar with if you read the site regularly. Check out his selection of records below!
10. Monuments – Gnosis
It’s really great to see the band finally releasing an album and getting signed to Century Media. Best of luck to them!
9. Periphery – Periphery II: This Time It’s Personal
They have helped in popularizing progressive metal with this record – even just for that this album deserves a position in the top 10 releases of 2012.
8. Thrice – Anthology
One of the best writers in our time. Incredible song collection that makes us appreciate their extraordinary creativity.
7. Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza – Danza IIII The Alpha – The Omega
Sheer brutality makes me smile. Could be a little too much for those who aren’t THAT pissed off with their lives.
6. Deftones – Koi No Yokan
Questionable album title. Great album, but I was expecting a little something different, though.
5. MONO – For My Parents
Nothing new, I guess, but why fix it when it’s not broken?
4. Sigur Rós – Valtari
It is by far the album I’ve listened to most this year. Beautiful
3. Alexisonfire – Death Letter
They couldn’t have released more appropriate music to put an end to their career spanning over a decade.
2. Converge – All We Love We Leave Behind
Not a bad album for 20 years in on their careers. Not bad.
1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor – ‘Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend!
Simply an incredible comeback.
