It has been a hot minute since fans of sludge metal have heard anything from the Savannah, Georgia five-piece as their last release, Spiral Shadows, dropped in late 2010. While the band has been keeping busy with tour after tour, new music is the spice of life for all of us metal junkies, and I’ll be honest, I had been getting worried that we would not see a new Kylesa album until at least 2013.
Unfortunately, that’s probably still the case, but the band knows what’s up, and in the mean time they’ve been hard at work on their forthcoming release, From the Vaults, Vol. 1. This release won’t be a brand new album, but it’ll be enough new material to tide us over for awhile. From the Vaults is a compilation album of sorts that will feature covers, reworkings of demos and older songs, as well as one new song titled ‘End Truth’, which is now streaming at Pitchfork.com.
On the new release vocalist and guitarist Philip Cope said, “We have spent over a year going through old songs, covers, etc. and collected those we felt went well together; remixing and finishing them up. We didn’t want to release something just thrown together so we put a lot of thought and time into it.”
While it’s not a brand new release, I expect this to be something pretty special. You can watch the trailer for the new release below, and once again, you can stream the new track ‘End Truth’, here. From the Vaults, Vol. 1 will be released November 20th via Season of Mist.
