Frontman Claudio Sanchez said in a statement, “This is without a doubt, the most honest record I’ve ever written. Though all the songs can be interpreted through our main character in the story, they were initially written in a very spontaneous manner. In the past, I’ve always had a predetermined idea of what the story was going to be when I approached the songs. With ‘The Afterman’ being a new story within the (‘The Amory Wars’) arc, I allowed the events of my life to drive the concept, and therefore opened up the songwriting to a fuller degree.”
The Afterman: Ascension will be released on October 9th, with the follow-up record The Afterman: Descension to be released sometime February 2013.
News aside, can we take a minute to talk about how great this trailer is? The sharp, modern black-and-white filmography, that humanly robotic voice conversing with emotion to the static-laden voice of the human cosmonaut, the hard keyboard sounds driving the piece along with subtle force, and then the white-out to the album title wrapping it up in a neat package. I’ll admit to getting chills every time “The All-Mother” speaks.
It’s just so damn good.
