Anything that Relapse signs is worth, at the very least, a cursory look. You’ve only got to look at their track record to see the HUGE number of great bands that have had the Relapse Records logo emblazoned on their releases to see they clearly know what they’re doing. So when I found out that they had signed Blockheads, I was little puzzled. I mean, Ian Dury’s been dead and gone for a good decade now and ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick‘ doesn’t have quite the same intensity as say ‘Blood And Thunder‘ or ‘Pretty In Casts‘.
Oh right, it’s not THE Blockheads. It’s Blockheads — a French grindcore band who’ve been plugging dirty, crusty releases since the early nineties. As with any Relapse release, the quality is high, and fans of Kill The Client, Phobia and Pretty Little Flower will easily find something to latch onto; but you’ll have to wait until at least 2013 for any new material to follow up their previous album Shapes Of Misery, which was released back in 2006.
