Chimp Spanner are a favorite of many of Heavy Blog’s writers, and tea-swilling, poo-flinging mastermind Paul Ortiz is also actually a really nice dude, so when a man with his talent for shredding like Marty Friedman and Jeff Loomis graces us with a play-through video for one of his tracks — the latest of which he has done for ‘Mobius Pt. III‘ from February’s All Roads Lead Here — it’s worth taking notice.
The band combines the shredding side of artists like Marty Friedman and Jeff Loomis with atmospheric ambiance and it works really well. Anyone who plays guitar and likes this band has probably at least thought about trying to learn some songs (before realizing how horribly inept we are), and as a drummer who is learning guitar, I love seeing how it is played so I can learn it, then put my own twist on how to play it. This is also my favorite song from their new release, so I’m really happy he chose to do this one.
He also discusses his upcoming tour with Jeff Loomis and 7 Horns 7 Eyes supporting the almighty The Contortionist. I wish they were playing a show near me. Oh well. After the jump, watch him playing ‘Dark Age Of Technology‘!
