I’ve belayed writing this post for a while now, but while I’m in the writing mood, I figure it might be a good time to inform you of what is sure to be one of the most important bands to keep your eye on. Mandroid Echostar is a six-piece progressive metal band from Guelph, Ontario, formed during the summer of 2010.  They recently released a self-titled EP containing four songs, and this EP has been dominating my rotation since I discovered it about a month ago via Today I Caught the Plague, who’s merch guy is a member of the band.

The closest thing I can liken Mandroid to is Protest the Hero fronted by Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria.  The meshing of these two different styles proves to be very successful, as Mandroid creates a energetic, fun atmosphere. Opener ‘Kingdom and the Crown’ is a very good example of their sound.  The song runs the gamut from intense guitar work, time changes, and blast beats, to anthemic vocals with lead guitar backing it. This continues for the duration of the EP’s 20 minute runtim, with no minute being a waste of your time.

You can download this for whatever price you wish to pay at their official bandcamp, and be sure to keep up with them on Facebook.
