As stern and elitist as the metal community can be sometimes, at the heart of it, I’d say we’re all big softies. While singing about mutilation and decimation, it’s not that uncommon to see people rallying together for some great causes and BoltFest was a great example of that. The festival itself was set up to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the legendary British death metal act Bolt Thrower with all profits going towards the Teenage Cancer Trust, who are a charity very dear to myself and that do some truly amazing work. Also on the bill were death/doom titans Autopsy, kings of British punk Discharge, Brummie death metallers Benediction and Gregor Mackintosh’s latest project Vallenfyre — essentially, a wet dream for any British death-metal-head.

All together the festival raised £12,411.80 which is roughly equivalent to 15,000 Euros or $20,000! A great success and, from what I’ve been told, a spectacular performance from every single band on the bill. I’m sure I speak for the whole of HBIH when I say that everyone involved deserves a hearty congratulations! Same time next year?
