In case you weren’t watching last night, the Revolver Golden Gods Awards was pretty much an embarrassment. I had to stop watching on the second award; as if seeing Black Veil Brides win guitarists of the year (ugh), seeing Tomas Haake (Meshuggah) and Brann Dailor (Mastodon) lose to that dude from Five Finger Death Punch was more than enough for me to enter rage mode and shut this trainwreck off.

Sure, it was chosen by the fans, but if it’s any indication, the average casual mainstream metal fan that cares enough to pay attention to Revolver long enough to vote has piss poor taste and no sense at all. Revolver should just do what The Academy does for The Grammys and get a panel of industry insiders to decide the winners. There’s no guarantee things will get better, but it’ll probably wind up better than this pile. Via Metal Insider:

I guess we can also let Gene Simmons have his award. Obviously, Rush’s lifetime achievement award is also the exception, but no one voted on that award, so good call, Revolver. Rush kicks ass. I’ll let the winners speak for themselves. Tell me what you think in the comments section.
