The year isn’t halfway over yet, but it’s looking like 2012 belongs to death metal in its many forms. I’m not sure if there’s a legitimate upswing in quality and innovation or if it’s simply my own personal tastes getting filthier, but much of the year’s most stand-out releases have been from death metal acts. While I’d love to get a discussion going about how ridiculously good music has been recently, I’m going to cut right to this hour’s order of business.
Cattle Decapitation are streaming a new song ‘Lifestalker‘ over at Metal Hammer (the German one), and if it’s any indication of the quality that their upcoming album Monolith of Inhumanity captures, then we’re looking at what could be another addition to the best-of lists later this year. As far as deathgrind goes, it’s hard to be particularly “catchy” (unless you’re Cephalic Carnage), but Cattle Decap delivers.
Monolith of Inhumanity is due out May 28th on Metal Blade Records. Pre-orders are available here, and they’re pretty damn neat.
