It’s time to head on over to Pitchfork to get your first taste of the brand new High On Fire record De Vermis Mysteriis with the track ‘Fertile Green‘ and what a poignant first taste it is! Their previous outing Snakes For The Divine was something special but it sounds like they’ve delivered the goods yet again. Matt Pike’s snarling rasp and crushing riffs are back alongside the pummeling rhythm section of Des Kensal and Jeff Matz, but it’s the presence of none other than Converge‘s Kurt Ballou on production duties that takes the High On Fire sound and kicks it through the dirt a few times — it sounds great.

But, most interesting of all? Check out this quote from Matt Pike about the themes of De Vermis Mysteriis:

I got this idea about Jesus Christ and the Immaculate Conception: What if Jesus had a twin who died at birth to give Jesus his life? And then what if the twin became a time traveler right then?

No, seriously. If this interview didn’t already make you want to grab some beers with Pike, then the De Vermis Mysteriis concept should when it drops on the 3rd of April through eOne Records. Drop out of life with a bong in your hands people, maybe we’ll hit up Jesus on the way and land us some hot cavewoman bitches.
