I never knew the status of these guys – you never can with ‘supergroups’ I suppose; what with members having other commitments most of the time – but it seems that for hardcore punk/powerviolence outfit United Nations are back in business, according to this tweet and this tweet. To what extent and on what time-scale I’m not entirely sure, but it makes me a little right in the pants area.

What I can tell you is that United Nations are a group shrouded in mystery. Their one and only self-titled album was released way back in ’08, and due to the various contractual obligations of the members, most are not credited. In a genre like this, that hardly matters, but it’s speculated that aside from project leader Geoff Rickly of Thursday, the cast – who appear in Richard Nixon masks – include Rickly’s ex-Thursday bandmate Tom Keeley, Glassjaw/Head Automatica frontman Daryl Palumbo and Ben Koller of Converge.

It makes absolute sense though; Thursday recently went on indefinite hiatus, so that frees up two members, and if the reports are true, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch for Palumbo and Koller to put a bit of time into what is primarily a studio project.

After the jump, catch a couple of tracks from that stunning self-titled debut. It’s fucking awesome.
