New music is all well and good, but in all honesty, how much of your attention is held by albums that came out years ago that you just discovered? Hell, most of your initial forays into metal will not have been with fancy new glossy tech bands, but good old classics. Am I wrong? Of course I’m not.

Which is why it’s always welcome to be given an excuse to look into the back catalogues of bands and labels who we know to have been producing excellence for many a year. Shelsmusic have done just that with the release of their second collector’s edition label compilation. Featuring the full range of styles they release, from records put out in 2009 and 2010, you’ve got tracks from Admiral Angry, Ef, Pariament Of Owls and Sons Of Noel And Adrian.

My personal picks are British post-metal leviathans Latitudes – who gig tirelessly and have crushed me every time I’ve seen them by virtue of chance when they’ve been supporting someone else – and The Ascent Of Everest, who write truly beautiful post-rock.

Catch the tracks below, and pick up one of the 100, hand-numbered CD copy from Shelsmusic.com (they have free shipping at the moment!).
